What are some colorful flowers that bloom in fall or winter?

I have a bed that gets sun for most of the day even in winter, and has good soil.

But when it gets cold, everything in the bed dies off and it looks ugly and depressing.

Can you recommend some brightly colored flowers that will bloom through the cold months? They can be either annuals or perennials. What are some colorful flowers that bloom in fall or winter?
ornamental grasses is a great idea. Remember, the point is to leave them up even when they have gone dormant. Don't cut them down until spring. The tall blades wave in the wind, glisten in the rain and ice. Only down side is in heavy ice or snow they may bend over and you may be tempted to cut them back, but give them a chance to spring back up.

Check your local gardening association or native plant society and be sure to select species that will not be invasive (miscanthus is one that can escape cultivation and is becoming a problem)

also, try some evergreen ground covers - i am in zone 6 US here are ones I would try : Xmas fern; wood fern; allegheny spurge, heuchera americana, ......

Try to remember that even shades of brown can hold a lot of interest and keep an eye out for birds eating dried seed heads, insects, etc. A dormant garden still holds lots of life you if know what to look for! What are some colorful flowers that bloom in fall or winter?
You could grow some geraniums or pelargoniums, very strong plants, really. They can survive in temperatures from +5 to +35 degrees Celsius. If there is snow you must take them indoors, or cover them with a plastic supermarket bag. Also, a good idea is cactus plants. They are ever stronger plants. Both of them need a little of water, a little fertilizer, and geraniums give beautiful bright colour flowers all year round.
mums and pansies are very colorful cool weather flowers. They come in a variety of colors too. But they will die off with winter. Maybe you could plant some ornamental grasses. They will give your garden interest during the winter.
Try lavender, plenty of variety and colour and the bush looks good without flowers as well.
